Theme of Transparency 2012 International Fashion Student Competition for the Arts of Fashion Foundation

March 2012

Nemopilema Nomurai:

Since 2002 the Sea of Japan has struggled with controlling the massive Nomura’s Jellyfish. Due to an increase in ocean temperature, algae blooms from fertilizer entering the ocean from China’s rivers, and a decrease in the number of jellyfish predators as a result of overfishing (the sea turtle and fish), these jellyfish have become enormous, weighing up to 450 pounds. The world as a whole has done little to address these environmental problem. My collection comments both on the transparency of theses creatures and the transparent fact that the environment is gravely changing before our eyes.
